Maple Bay cats and kittens are fed a high quality raw meat diet in addition to commercial cat food.  75% of their diet is fresh raw meat.  Our mother cats eat a fresh meat diet almost exclusively while they are pregnant and nursing.  The kittens are weaned to a raw, but have been introduced to commercial dry and canned food.
We model our feeding program after the “Raw Meaty Bones” diet.  If you choose to continue the “health food” for cats, this website will be helpful.
Raw Meaty Bones
An easy alternative to the raw meaty bones way of feeding is to use fresh raw ground turkey or lean beef supplemented with Wysong Call of the Wild or Feline Future Instincts.  Both of these supplements are designed to completely balance fresh meat for raw feeders.

Below are two “from scratch” raw meat recipes that do not require supplementation.
Recipe that does not require a meat grinder

• 1 lb raw ground turkey muscle meat (the darker the meat the higher its taurine content)
• 1 piece of raw chopped turkey liver
• 1 raw chopped heart
• 100g chopped chicken/turkey gizzards
• 1400 mg calcium carbonate or 1 teaspoon of eggshell powder* or 1/2 tsp of bone meal powder**
• 1 raw egg yolk and lightly cooked white of same egg
• 1 teaspoon Salmon body oil (available in liquid or in capsules at health food stores)
• 1,000mg taurine

Optional Supplements: In addition, for this recipe you can add 1 Tbsp gelatin as a proxy for bone cartilage and 1 tsp kelp/dulse for trace minerals usually present in bones.

Basic large raw recipe using meat grinder

*20 pounds of ground chicken bone-in leg quarters
OR
*20 lbs ground turkey + 4 tablespoons bone meal (bone meal from health food store)
(you could also use boneless pork or beef roast and grind yourself)
*1 1/2 lbs chicken livers
*4 lbs chicken hearts and gizzards
*Ground flax seed, I use 1/2 lb of seed and grind in blender, or I use flaxseed oil, 1 cup.
     Vitamin E, and Fish oil.

You don't always have to add the heart and gizzards but heart is important because of the taurine it contains, which is vital to cats health.  If you don't use heart you must add powdered taurine.

Divide the recipe, freeze in small 2 day sized portions and thaw as needed.
